1. Introduction
In this lesson, you will be playing only the black key notes. Playing just the black keys is an easy way to play the 5 note Pentatonic scale. The Pentatonic scale creates a mood that may remind you of songs from East Asia.


2. Notes of the Pentatonic Scale
Below is an animation of notes being played from the Pentatonic scale.










Try to play this pattern yourself. Also, try different things. Play different orders of the black key notes. Hold some black key notes longer than others. See if you can make some kind of interesting tune with it. The great thing about playing the Pentatonic scale with the black keys is that as long as you stick to just the black keys, every key you hit sounds like it fits in automatically! You can even try running your fingers really fast over the black keys.

The Pentatonic scale is a five note scale that creates a mood that may remind you of songs from East Asia. Playing just the black keys on the piano keyboard is an easy way to play the Pentatonic scale.
